Marcus Rashford on fire as he scores hat-trick from bench to see Manchester United to 5-0 win over RB Leipzig
Oct 28, 2020
Marcus Rashford was unstoppable for Manchester United after coming off the bench to score a hat-trick in their 5-0 win over RB Leipzig.
The forward has been in the headlines for his campaigning off the pitch but continues to perform on it.
Leipzig struggled to deal with the England international as he was phenomenal in scoring all three in 16 minutes.
United had the better chances in the early stages and broke the deadlock in the 21st minute through a classy Mason Greenwood finish.
Fred won the ball in midfield and fed Pogba to drive forward, whose through ball found the 19-year-old to get a smart, low strike across Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.
The video assistant referee checked the goal but Dayot Upamecano was adjudged to have just played Greenwood onside.
It was also the first shot the teenager has had in Champions League football as his remarkable scoring record continues.
Leipzig responded well with Christopher Nkunku forcing a save from David De Gea and Nemanja Matic reacting to thwart Marcel Halstenberg getting on the end of the resulting corner.
But United withstood Leipzig’s renewed threat for the remainder of the half, with Upamecano’s calls for a penalty after being shoved by Pogba ignored by the referee and VAR just before half-time.
Second half substitutes Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford made an instant impact after coming on.
