Officials recommend Halloween alternatives amid pandemic
Oct 29, 2020
Lujan Grisham talked about the risks that come with celebrating Halloween as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"These are the high risk activities. You will not be surprised. Door-to-door — too high risk. In-person costume parties — too high risk. Haunted houses where you're getting out of the car — too high risk,” said the governor.
Halloween isn’t banned but Lujan Grisham is urging folks to stay safe.
The CDC said that costume masks do not replace a face covering. It is not recommended to wear both items at once either, as it can make breathing difficult. Instead, the CDC recommends using a face mask that matches a costume.
Some cities in New Mexico are offering COVID-safe events like drive-thru trunk-or-treats or haunted houses. Other safe options would be pumpkin carving, movie nights or ghost stories with household family members.
