Pep Guardiola speaks out on fresh Lionel Messi transfer rumours after signing new Man City contract

Pep Guardiola has dismissed suggestions Man City will sign Lionel Messi.
The Barcelona captain, who almost left the Catalans earlier this year, will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Messi continues to be linked with a move to Guardiola’s Man City in what would be a remarkable reunion with his former Barcelona boss.
However, Guardiola, who signed a new two-year contract extension at the Etihad on Thursday , believes the 33-year-old should finish his career at Barcelona.
He said: “I have said a thousand times I would like, as a Barcelona fan, for him to finish his career there.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in his mind but for now he is a Barcelona player.”
On the same day, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman told reporters he was no longer going to answer questions about Messi’s future .
Koeman said: “No, I don’t see him outside the club and I won’t say anymore about this.
“I won’t take any more questions on Leo’s future.”
But Koeman leapt to the defence of Messi when asked if there were issues between the player and teammate Antoine Griezmann.
Earlier this week, Messi told reporters he was ‘fed up of always being the problem’ after being accused of ruining a ‘regime of terror’ at the Camp Nou by Griezmann’s former agent, Eric Olhats.
Koeman said: “I can understand why Leo would be angry.
“I think we have to respect people like Leo Messi much more. After such a long flight, to ask him things about Antoine when he lands shows a lack of respect.
“So, I have to defend Leo. If that happened to me after a 15-hour journey and a one-hour wait at the airport, then you go outside and there are press asking those questions, I would be dangerous and hating them as well.
“It’s an attempt from [the media] to create controversy where there is none. I have not seen any problems between Leo and Antoine.
“In addition, the comments are from someone who’s not been [Griezmann’s agent] for years. It is complete nonsense.”
