MESSI IS THE GOAT! Lionel Messi Beats Cristiano Ronaldo Again After Being Named As The Best Playmaker Of The Decade

Jan. 13, 2021

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has been crowned the Playmaker of the Decade, while his arch-rival and Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo fails to make the cut.
Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi marked off a slow start to the current campaign, appearing to struggle in front of goal. But his performances in the previous few games suggest that he has regained his top form as the season progresses. Despite the recent slump, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner has been one of the most consistent performers in the previous decade. His efforts were rewarded after being crowned the Playmaker of the Decade, while his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo missed out.
According to a report by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), Messi leads the way as the top playmaker of the decade. The Argentina international stands undisputed at the top of the table, with 174 points to his credit. The numbers by IFFHS are based on a yearly ranking system.
Leo Messi has scored some memorable goals throughout his career. His moves are historic, but as well as scoring goals, he is as important when it comes to creating an attacking play.
The IFFHS have named him playmaker of the decade. This award is given to the best creator of attacking play in the last 10 years. Barcelona have performed excellently and won plenty of titles in that time.
The Argentinian star won the prize in 2015. 2016, 2017, and 2019 and came second in 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2020. In addition, the second footballer in the rankings is a former teammate of his, Andres Iniesta.
Modric came third. Players like De Bruyne, Toni Kroos, Neymar, and David Silva were among the top 20.
Other standout names from the list are Pirlo, Isco, Yaya Touré, and Schweinsteiger. There are more Spaniards on the list than players from any other country (5). Thiago and Xavi are also on it.
RONALDO VS MESSI: Mesut Ozil Says Messi Is One In Spain While Ronaldo Is The GREATEST PLAYER EVER | Do You Agree With Him?
The debate on who is the best between Lionel Messi and Ronaldo is one that will continue to divide tides. One player who believes the Portuguese is the greatest player ever is Mesut Ozil. The out of favour Arsenal man has that Cristiano Ronaldo's ability to play well in several countries is why he's better than Lionel Messi.
On Sunday Ronaldo became the player with the joint-most official goals in football history, tying with Josef Bican on 759 goals, although Pele will no doubt be along to dispute his number any day now.
Messi isn't too far behind his rival and actually has a better goal to game ratio and six Ballon d'Ors to Ronaldo's five, though again Pele technically has seven.
It's tough to split the two modern greats in reality but Ozil responded on Twitter to the question and believes that Ronaldo's ability to transfer his skills in several leagues puts him ahead of the Barca star.
Of course, there is no doubt that the Juventus forward's record in Portugal, England, Spain and now Italy speaks for itself over the years.
