Tofu is most common in China but are readily available in grocery stores all over the world now, Tofu is made from soy milk (condensed) and it is pressed into blocks, very similar to cheese making process. Tofu has been in existence for a very long time and it was said to be around 2, 000 years ago, the production of Tofu was said to be by mistake as the Chinese chefs mixed Soy milk with Nigari (Salt extracted from seawater), the Nigari is what gives the Tofu its solid shape.
Consumption of Tofu has been in the debate for over a long period of time, whether it is safe for consumption or not safe for consumption because Soy beans are mostly genetically modified, however, different journals has cleared the air that Genetically modified foods (GMFs) are no threats to the health, this prompted the write up about the Nutritional Profile.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) disclosed that 100 grams of Tofu contains 70 calories which is quite okay for the health and needed for carrying out vital activities such as (Mental exercise and physical exercise), calories are also important in keeping the heart beating and lungs fully functional.
Tofu is no doubt a protein dense food and it contains 8 grams of protein which is necessary for the proper growth of the hair, nails and skin health, protein also help to keep the glands functioning as its building blocks (Amino acids) are in charge of the vital glands. Tofu contains 2 grams of carbs which ascertain that food is an energy food and helps the proper growth and development of the body.
