Uganda is set to host the 11th Africa Society of Blood Transfusion Congress starting from 4th to 7th March 2024 at Speke resort Munyonyo in Kamapala.

The congress will run under the theme” safe and sustainable blood transfusion services in Africa; adopting global innovations and technology advancements in blood transfusion services.

Address journalists at Uganda media centre today 12th February 2024, Dr. Dorothy Kyeyune, the executive director of Uganda blood transfusion services has noted that the event will bring together esteemed experts and stakeholders in the field of Blood Transfusion medicine across the African continent.

According her, the scientific congress will address blood safety issues, blood adequacy issues and sustainable aspects in Uganda and Africa at large.

Dr. Kyeyune noted that the congress has come at a time when Uganda is still collecting inadequate blood units of about 300,000 annually as compared to 450,000 required units according to the World health organization standards
