Troops Killed Notorious Bandit Dogo Gide Days After Declaring Him Wanted Alongside Simon Ekpa
Mar 27, 2024
A notorious bandit leader in Nigeria' s North West region, Dogo Gide, has been killed. This was confirmed by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who announced on Wednesday that Gide died from gunshot wounds sustained during a confrontation with Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) troops of the Nigerian Army.
Gide, known as one of Nigeria' s most wanted bandits, was responsible for the kidnapping and deaths of many villagers and the displacement of countless others in the North. His operational headquarters were known to rotate among states in the North West, particularly Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina.
Recall that Dogo Gide was listed alongside most wanted individuals with Biafran Agitator Simon Ekpa.
On October 30, 2023, Gide narrowly escaped death and capture during a battle with Nigerian troops who stormed his strongholds in Zamfara State. The troops raided Gide' s Yau Sarkin Pawa residence, where they found and destroyed a tailoring factory used for making military and other security agencies' uniforms. They also discovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a mini pharmacy for treating wounded terrorists, and five operational motorcycles and sewing machines, among other items.
This development is a significant victory in the fight against banditry in Nigeria, as Dogo Gide' s death will likely disrupt the activities of his gang and bring some relief to the affected communities in the region.
