Kenyan Female Billionaire: The Daughter of Biwott Who Allegedly Refused Her Huge Inheritance
Apr 11, 2024
In 2018, Rita Field-Marsham—one of the seven children of former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott—declined to inherit her late father's wealth, giving the nation a unique opportunity.
Rita had been given one-fourth of the strongman's fortune, which she declined without giving an explanation. The remainder of the family received an equal share of the famed advocate's investment.
"A portion of the deceased person's estate is designated for me as a beneficiary. She said, "I want to give over all of my rights, titles, and interests to the deceased's estate.
Biwott and his Dutch wife Johanna had a daughter named Rita. The name of her sister is Rhoda Jakobsoon. Rita met Charles Field-Marsham while attending McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and the two started dating. They were both pursuing their undergraduate degrees at the time.
Later, the pair wed and established a family in Kenya, where they also manage sizable businesses. However, Rita and her husband relocated to Toronto, Canada, upon the retirement of President Daniel Arap Moi, Biwott's right-hand man, in 2002.
In addition to founding Field-Marsham Co. Advocates, she served on the pro bono panels of the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya's Commercial Law Committee.
