Zambia in trouble, Judge throws out FAZ application
Apr 27, 2024
A High Court Judge in Zambia has dismissed an application filed by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to allow the country’s governing soccer body go ahead with its scheduled Annual General Assembly.
FIFA yesterday directed that FAZ go ahead with the planned meeting or risk being suspended from all soccer competitions. In a letter to FAZ seen by Zambian Eye over the happenings in Lusaka where the top FAZ leadership including its president has been arrested on a corruption allegations, FIFA charged that
Zambia had breached the world and continental soccer governing bodies rules not to take its grievances to court.
FAZ decided to apply to have the injunction filed to restrain the holding of the AGM be set aside so that the meeting would go ahead according to the directive by FIFA.
But Lusaka Judge Greenwell Malumani decline to discharge the ex-parte injunction issued against FAZ and adjourned the matter to next week on 2nd May 2024. The AGM was scheduled for April 27.
FAZ has since adjourned the AGM indefinitely.
Zambian Eye’sAsa Manda in Lusaka says the ruling threatens the prospects of the country’s female soccer team’s opportunity to play at the 2024 Olympic games. FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says it is too early to say if there will be immediate consequences from FIFA.
