Wife of the Otumfou Osei Tutu II, Lady Julia, has shared the story of how they met twenty-two years ago.

She shared that their first encounter took place when she was serving as the legal and corporate officer at Ecobank, and was assigned the responsibility of delivering the vote of thanks at the inauguration of the bank’s first branch.

“Otumfuo and I first met when I came to Kumasi as the legal and cooperate officer of Ecobank Ghana and I was asked to give the vote of thanks for the opening of the first branch,” Lady Julia began the tale of her love story during the thanksgiving service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Fante New Town, Kumasi, in commemoration of his 74th birthday.

According to her, Otumfuo invited her over for a royal dinner that evening after the event.

That was after he had strived to find out everything he needed to know about her.

She jokingly teased her husband about how he refused to leave the event even when it was raining. Efforts by his courtiers to get him home proved futile as he waited to round up information about his future ‘Queen Julia’.

“He tells me he was mesmerised. But at the end of the ceremony, even though it had started to rain, he refused to leave, despite the prompting of his courtiers. He made sure he found out about who I was and how to get in touch with me before leaving the event ground.
