May 9, 2024
The heartbroken mother of a 14-year-old student who passed away from poisoning after spending 17 days in a coma has disclosed how excited her daughter was about traveling abroad to participate in netball trials.
On April 8, following netball practice, Palesa Nomfundo Khumalo, a student at Pinnacle College Kyalami High School in Midrand, passed out.
Before she passed away, her daughter had questioned her, according to her mother Gugulethu Khumalo: "Mama, do you think I have been poisoned? Do you believe I'm going to die, mama?
Palesa, a ninth-grader, passed away on April 25.
Khumalo, 31, stated that her daughter was a high achiever who did well in school and in netball, which is her favorite sport.
According to Khumalo, the family was seeking clarification over the whereabouts of their daughter, who was scheduled to fly to Orlando, Florida, for netball trials in August.
She and her peers would visit the Empire State Building, Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center, and Statue of Liberty in addition to the netball trials.
Palesa would have advanced to the following round, which was scheduled for September in Switzerland, had she prevailed in the US trials.
She had started attending the institution in January.
Since starting school, my kid has consistently received good grades. She was transferred from Hyde Park High to this school since it would maintain her academic standing and allow her to pursue her passion for netball.
