CHINENYE Ulaegbu: A Rising Star In FILMMAKING With Her Debut Short Film Mira
May 27, 2024
Actress and filmmaker Chinenye Ulaegbu is quickly establishing herself as a notable figure in the film industry. Her recently produced short film, " Mira, " serves as a testament to her growing influence and talent.
Ulaegbu revealed that " Mira" was originally submitted as her final project while studying at the Delyork Creative Academy. Discussing the project' s inception, she shared with Saturday Beats, " The movie, which marks my directorial debut, was my final assignment at the Delyork Creative Academy. Each director was given the opportunity to pitch a story on any theme of their choice. However, what wasn' t initially disclosed was that only the top two stories would be selected for production. "
Realizing the competitive nature of the task, Ulaegbu knew she had to deliver her best work. " I didn' t need to be told to bring my A- game, " she said. " Out of the seven directors who pitched their stories, mine was one of the two chosen. "
The film tackles a critical social issue: the dangers of early marriage in Africa and its detrimental effects on young girls. " Mira" is a gender- based narrative that aims to raise awareness about the importance of education for girls and their right to choose their own futures. " This practice is prevalent in many African countries, including Nigeria. I pitched the story to highlight the significance of girls receiving the education they deserve and having the freedom to become whoever they wish to be, " Ulaegbu explained.
