Laryea Kingston: Investing in myself to transform Ghana Football narrative
May 27, 2024
Laryea Kingston has revealed his decision to invest in himself as a football coach, which ultimately led to his resignation as head coach of the Black Starlets.
This decision came in the wake of the team’s 2-1 semifinal loss to Burkina Faso on Saturday at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, which resulted in Ghana failing to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
In his post-game press conference, the former Hearts of Oak midfielder explained that his decision to leave the Black Starlets role was made before the tournament began, regardless of the outcome.
I have focused more on my coaching career and educated myself well to make sure I come back and change the narrative.”
He added, “The investment I put in myself is all because I want to change something in Ghana football.”
Meanwhile, the Black Starlets are set to face Nigeria in the 3rd and 4th place game on Tuesday, with assistant coach Jacob Narteh expected to take charge of the match.
