Hunky city police chief under investigation for having 2 year affair
Jun 13, 2024
A California police chief is being probed over an 'inappropriate off-duty relationship' he is alleged to have had with the spouse of one of his own officers.
Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama, 47, was outed last week by city officials for being investigated over the alleged relationship with a non-city employee.
Balderrama, who is married to his wife Kayla and has three children, was not placed on leave but still remains under investigation by an independent investigator.
Sources told the The San Joaquin Valley Sun that he used the alleged affair to undermine the officer's career moves that would have brought an end to the affair.
In a statement to the outlet from the officer, Balderrama is alleged to have initiated a two-year affair from August 2021 which ended upon discovery in 2023.
The unknown subordinate and his legal representatives then reported the affair to Fresno's City Attorney in February.
After the alleged affair was reported to the City Attorney, Balderrama reportedly admitted to the affair but minimized the length of it.
In his statement, the officer said he was actively seeking a change in the department from patrol to another division that would have enabled greater flexibility.
The change in assignment would have reshaped the officers schedule by freeing up weekends, which would have interfered with Balderrama's access to his wife.
