Heartbreaking news has rocked the football world as Millwall and Montenegro goalkeeper Matija Sarkic has tragically passed away at the young age of 26. The devastating news has left fans, teammates, and the entire football community in shock and mourning.
According to reports, Sarkic fell ill at an apartment in Budva, Montenegro on Saturday morning and sadly passed away despite immediate medical attention. The cause of his sudden illness is yet to be disclosed.
Matija Sarkic began his career in Anderlecht' s academy before joining Aston Villa in 2015. He had loan spells at various clubs, including Wigan, Stratford, Havant and Waterlooville, and Livingston, before moving to Wolves in 2020. He joined Millwall last August and made 33 appearances for the club. Sarkic also represented Montenegro, making his debut against Belarus in 2019 and was on international duty last week for a friendly against Belgium.
