Cabuyao City, Laguna-The Institute of Ingtegrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) Southern Luzon Regional Conference (SLRC) will host an open chess tournament on June 27 at Centromall Cabuyao here in Barangay Pulo.

The Fide-rated chess event is organized by Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez, 2021 IIEE national president,and Dr. Fred Paez, Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) and Rotary Club Nuvali president.

The tournament is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and offers an individual prize of P7,000 to the champion.

The runner-up gets P5,000 while the third to fifth placerswinP3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

Thetop IIEE member,top executive (PECA member), top senior, top junior, top kiddie (12-below),top female and top player from Cabuyao will pocket P1,000 each.

The top five teams, meanwhile, will receive trophies.

The7-round Swiss system tournament, however, will be limited to 60 players only. Time control is 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment.

The event will have a DGT set up for the top boards courtesy of JCI Senate Lipa and Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineer (PSME) president Engr. Roger Reyes.

The chess tournament is one of the side events during the SLRC which will be held from June 27 to 29at Hotel Marciano in Calamba City, Laguna.
