In a dramatic turn of events, a suspect involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Tembisa was left severely injured after a failed heist yesterday. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered critical facial injuries, with the bottom of his face nearly blown off during the botched robbery.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon when a group of armed men attempted to intercept a CIT vehicle on a busy street in Tembisa. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants ambushed the security vehicle with high-caliber firearms, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
"It was chaotic. We heard loud bangs and saw people running for cover. The security guards fought back bravely," said Sipho Dlamini, a local shop owner who witnessed the scene.
The security personnel, trained for such high-risk scenarios, managed to repel the attackers. In the ensuing gunfight, one of the suspects was critically injured. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, providing immediate medical attention to the injured suspect before transporting him to a nearby hospital under heavy police guard.
Captain Mavuso Nkosi, spokesperson for the Gauteng Police, confirmed the incident and provided further details. "The swift response by the CIT security team thwarted what could have been a disastrous robbery. One suspect was critically injured, and several others fled the scene. We are currently conducting a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects."
