Mai Martaba, the epic movie by award-winning broadcaster and filmmaker, Prince Daniel (Aboki), is ready to hit the cinema. Shot on location in Daura, Kastina State with a cast strength of over 300 actors, Mai Martaba (His Highness) opened in major cinemas in Northern Nigeria as from July 19 and would subsequently be released on a major streaming platform.

Speaking from his base in Kano, the producer and director Prince Daniel Aboki whose short film Hiding Place won the best short film award at Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival, Canada and at the Kaduna International Film Festival disclosed that 99.9 percent of the actors are new entrants into the industry, a gesture he believes would broaden the creative sector’s value chain especially in northern Nigeria.

A tale of power, love, greed and betrayal, Mai Martaba is a spin-off of Kasar Jallaba, a radio drama series on 95.1 Arewa Radio Kano, which tells the story of an ancient kingdom that once experienced a trade boom through Trans-Sahara trade exchange, but was short-lived due to stiff internal power tussle amongst the powerful Agadashawa ruling clan, leading to the collapse of the Agadashawa dynasty.
