The National Council of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) walked out on the Deputy Education Minister, Professor Kingsley Nyarko over laptop issues on July 22, 2024, at GNAT Village, Abankro Ejisu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
According to the National Council, they were expecting the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to address the house on their long-awaited laptops and other related issues but no official speech from him was circulated.
To them, they were expecting him at the GNAT Village to address the issue but he didn’t avail himself.
His (Education Minister) absence at the GNAT Village was the catalyst that triggered their decision to stage a walk out on the Deputy Education Minister Professor Kingsley Nyarko.
Majority of Ghanaian teachers were deducted for the TM1 laptop that government announced that will help the teaching and learning process however, the initiative only swallowed the salaries of the teachers leaving them in the dark without any exact up-to-date information on the processes.
