Nigerian news agency Channels TV has not fired popular journalist Seun Okinbaloye
Jul 24, 2024
IN SHORT: Several Facebook posts claim that Seun Okinbaloye was fired by his employer, Channels TV. But this is not true. Okinbaloye was on leave and returned to work on 22 July 2024.
Popular Nigerian journalist Seun Okinbaloye has been “sacked” from Channels Television, according to posts on Facebook.
One post, dated 19 July 2024, reads: “Breaking: Seun Okinbaloye sacked by Channels TV. Obviously, we all know who the drummer is BAT/APC of course, they hate the truth. What a shame.”
The posts suggest that president Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the country’s ruling party, was behind Okinbaloye’s dismissal.
Okinbaloye hosts the political programme Politics Today on Channels TV. He also has a podcast called Mic on Podcast, where he discusses sensitive issues affecting Nigerians with public officials and activists.
The claims that the government orchestrated Okinbaloye’s dismissal are because of his unfiltered and controversial podcast.
