Jul 29, 2024
Dreaded Gunmen suspected to be hoodlums have attacked a Nigeria Customs Service patrol base in Koko, Kebbi State, resulting in the death of one officer and the abduction of another. The attack, which took place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, was confirmed in a press statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu.
According to the statement, the attack occurred at around 9: 00 PM when a group of armed men stormed the patrol base. The attackers destroyed properties and targeted officers, apparently in response to recent efforts to curb smuggling activities in the area. During the chaos, Assistant Superintendent Customs I, Dabo Umar, was tragically killed, and Superintendent of Customs, Babagana Abba Kabiru, was abducted. The assailants demanded a hefty ransom for Kabiru' s release.
The body of the deceased officer, Dabo Umar, was recovered and transported to Kaduna for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. In response to the incident, the Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, expressed his condolences to Umar' s family and called for prayers for the safe return of the abducted officer.
A manhunt has been launched to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the kidnapped officer. The statement also urged the public to provide any information that could assist in locating Kabiru. Authorities assured that all relevant security services are involved in the effort to resolve the situation.
