GREENVILLE — DiscoverFresh Foods, formerly Duke Sandwich Productions, announced immediate layoffs for 53 employees at its Easley manufacturing facility and seven employees in its downtown Greenville office.
The company — which makes ready-to-eat dips and spreads from Eugenia Duke's recipes — filed its notice of layoffs under the state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification act on Aug. 2.
At this time, no known illnesses have been linked to DiscoverFresh.
The company is also in the throws of a multi-year legal battle with two of its former leaders, alleging that the former director of human resources and former chief financial officer conspired to steal millions from DiscoverFresh Foods.
The company also previously confirmed that it is subletting part of its office space at 600 S. Main St. in downtown Greenville.
A representative from the company didn't immediately respond to The Post and Courier's questions about whether the layoffs are related to recent controversies.
Duke Sandwich Productions was created by Eugenia Duke’s bookkeeper, Alan Hart, in the late 1920s. Hart purchased Duke's coveted sandwich recipes as the foundation for his company. Duke Sandwich Productions rebranded to DiscoverFresh Foods in 2021.
