After four decades of military service, former Chief of Defence Forces General ( Rtd) Julius Waweru Karangi bowed out of the Kenya Defence Forces in 2015.
The retired General had served as KDF chief for four years having been appointed in 2011 as a successor to General Jeremiah Kianga.
He had previously served as Vice CDF for six years having deputized General ( Rtd) Kianga.
Before that, General Karangi had served as Kenya Air Force commander and commandant, Defence Staff College.
Today, almost one decade since his retirement from KDF, the former CDF is still holding top government positions.
Before President William Ruto's takeover of power in 2022, he served as board chairperson of the National Social Security Fund ( NSSF) .
In December 2022, he was appointed by President Ruto as the new chairman of the National Council for Population Development for a period of three years.
In 2024, he was added another responsibility by Dr Ruto as the new Chancellor of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
But even after Ruto's recent directive that all public servants who have attained the retirement age of 60 years should immediately exit, General Karangi remains in government.
But what many Kenyans are asking, was President Ruto's talk just cosmetic and a public relations stunt?
