The family of Nelson Munene Kimathi in the U.S. is raising funds for burial expenses after he was shot several times and killed.

Munene is reported to have been killed by a homeowner in Denver, Colorado after entering the house late at night.

“A startled resident shot and killed a man who was intruding in their apartment early Sunday morning,” according to the Denver Police Department.

An initial call of a shooting came in around 1 a.m., according to a police department spokesperson.

Police officials said a surprised resident shot the intruder inside their home.

Munene was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened on July 21.

A post on GoGoFundMen by Munene’s family hopes to raise $30,000 to cater for funeral expenses.

Munene’s family described him as “an obedient, fun-loving, adventurous, jovial, kind and sensitive soul”.

They said he  loved the outdoors, travel, and hanging out with friends, colleagues and family.”
