Aug 3, 2024
Summary
Alysanne Targaryen defied expectations by marrying her brother, Jaehaerys, and proved to be proficient at being a queen.
Alysanne's efforts brought clean drinking water to the smallfolk of King's Landing and rights for women.
Alysanne Targaryen would pass away due to old age, but her legacy would be fondly remembered.
With all the talks and arguments on the matter of succession in House of the Dragon, there are few things the Greens and Blacks can agree upon. One of them is this: King Viserys' predecessor, King Jaehaerys Targaryen, was perhaps the greatest king Westeros has ever known. This is unobjectively a true statement. Jaehaerys is almost solely responsible for transforming Westeros into the united and prosperous kingdom it was at the start of the series. However, he was not alone in this endeavor. At his side through the majority of his life, lending wise counsel and tempering some of his harsher instincts was his wife, Queen Alysanne Targaryen.
She hasn't been mentioned all that much in the show. Or at all really. Yet, Alysanne is also pivotal for several major developments in Westeros' history and culture. She was beloved by all who knew her, and those who set out to be opposed to her were usually won over by her charm.
