'World's Most Dangerous Prison' located In Africa Where Inmates Are Forced To Eat Corpses
Aug 5, 2024
One of the most notorious prisons in Africa is the Gitarama Prison in Rwanda, often referred to as the "world's most dangerous prison." This facility is infamous not only for its brutal conditions but also for the extreme hardships and abuses experienced by its inmates.
Gitarama Prison, which was constructed to hold about 400 inmates, has been severely overcrowded, sometimes housing up to 7,000 prisoners at a time. The sheer number of inmates in such a confined space exacerbates the dire conditions. With such overcrowding, sanitation and hygiene standards are virtually non-existent, leading to frequent outbreaks of disease and severe malnutrition among the prisoners.
The prison has gained notoriety for its brutal treatment of inmates, including the horrific practice of forcing prisoners to eat corpses. This act, which might seem almost inconceivable, stems from the severe shortages of food and other resources. Inmates who are already suffering from malnutrition and disease are subjected to this extreme measure as a form of punishment or as a means of survival. The prison’s dire conditions are a stark reflection of the broader issues of governance and human rights in the region, where inadequate infrastructure and lack of resources contribute to the inhumane treatment of prisoners.
