On March 24, 1999, Babatunde ' Tunde' Abdulbaki Idiagbon, a retired Major- General of the Nigerian Army and the de facto vice president of Nigeria, passed away under enigmatic circumstances at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Kwara State.
At just 56 years old, his sudden demise left many questions unanswered and a profound sense of grief among his family and community.
The events leading to Idiagbon' s death were both dramatic and heartbreaking. He began experiencing a severe stomach ailment on March 21 but, despite his discomfort, he traveled to Abuja on March 22.
Upon returning to Ilorin the following day, his condition worsened significantly. By the evening of March 23, he was in extreme distress, unable to breathe properly and drenched in sweat.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, his family rushed him to the hospital, where medical staff quickly initiated emergency procedures, including surgery.

Tragically, despite their best efforts, he succumbed to his illness just 18 hours after being admitted, passing away at 4: 35 PM on March 24.
The news of his death sent shockwaves through Ilorin, with mourning echoing throughout the community.
His family, friends, and fellow citizens expressed their sorrow, with his 90- year- old mother, Alhaja Ayisat, voicing her heart- wrenching grief: " What is life to me now without Tunde? Who have I offended that could not have taken me instead? " Her words encapsulated the profound loss felt by many.
