Besiktas JK terminates Daniel Amartey's contract
Sep 14, 2024
Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas JK has announced the club's decision to abrogate the contract of Ghana defender Daniel Amartey by mutual consent.
Amartey, who was deemed surplus to requirements by Besiktas manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, has left the Black and White lads by mutual termination after rejecting a summer transfer to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The Istanbul-based club had wanted to move him on to other interested suitors, but the 29-year-old dragged his feet over the transfer decision as he wanted a January transfer move instead.
The club's official statement reads: “The contract between our club and professional football player Daniel Amartey has been terminated by mutual agreement.”
Amartey arrived at Besiktas JK on a free transfer in 2023 after ending his seven-year stay at English side Leicester City, a club he helped clinch its first-ever Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.
The former Black Stars centre-back made 27 appearances for Besiktas JK and scored a goal during his stint at the club.
Amartey has capped 55 times for the senior national team of Ghana since making his Black Stars debut in 2015.
Daniel Amartey rejects seven clubs
According to Besiktas SK General Secretary Kaan Şakul in a report filed by KickGh earlier this month, Amartey turned down seven clubs.
