Police in Nairobi are investigating a bizarre incident involving an MCA who narrowly escaped lynching by an angry mob on suspicion of stealing mobile phones from a shop in the city' s bustling downtown area. The incident occurred over the weekend on Saturday, September 14, 2024, leaving Cyrus Kisavi, also known as Sonko, severely injured and hospitalized. Kisavi is the elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County.

However, this time his plan was foiled when the shop attendants recognized him and raised the alarm. Upon hearing the commotion, a crowd of bystanders quickly gathered outside the shop. Furious at the brazen theft, the crowd cornered Kisavi, and what followed was a brutal and violent assault. Witnesses reported seeing the mob beat the politician with kicks and blows, leaving him seriously injured. The chaos escalated quickly, and it was only the timely intervention of the police that saved Kisavi from further harm.

After the mob attack, Kisavi was immediately taken to Kamukunji police station, where he was briefly detained before being transferred to a hospital in Nairobi for medical treatment. As of now, he remains under police guard while receiving care for the injuries he sustained in the assault. Sources from the hospital indicate that Kisavi is recovering but remains in serious condition due to the severity of the beatings.
