Sep 19, 2024
Kumasi Aaron, an American journalist, has shared the intriguing story behind her unique name, which pays homage to the vibrant city of Kumasi in Ghana. In a recent interview, she explained how her mother’s admiration for the city inspired the name choice.
Kumasi revealed that her mother discovered the name while reading a book and was captivated by it. “I'm named after the city of Kumasi in the West African country of Ghana. My mother just liked everything about the city and its people,” she said. Despite her father initially wanting to name her Clarissa, her mother’s choice prevailed. Interestingly, her father later had the opportunity to name her brothers Joe and John.
Although Kumasi initially disliked her name due to frequent mispronunciation during her school years, she has come to appreciate it. “I love my name now,” she noted, reflecting on her journey of self-acceptance.
Kumasi Aaron currently works as a journalist and news anchor for WJXT Channel 4 in Jacksonville, Florida, having previously been associated with ABC News.
