Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Puyol, others to storm Ghana as Barcelona legends take on Ghana legends in historic match in Kumasi next month
Oct 4, 2024
The Barça Legends have announced that their first game of the season will take place in Ghana, where they will face a team of former Ghanaian football stars.
The match is scheduled for Sunday, November 10, at 3pm local time (5pm CEST), and will be held at the iconic Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, which boasts a capacity of 40,500 spectators.
This highly anticipated clash marks the fifth Legends match on African soil, following previous fixtures in Mozambique (2017), Morocco (2019), and last year’s games in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Ghanaian squad will feature some of the country's greatest football legends, including three-time African Player of the Year Abedi Pelé, who famously won the UEFA Champions League with Olympique Marseille in 1993. Other stars include Asamoah Gyan, known for his stints at Modena, Udinese, and Sunderland, and Stephen Appiah, celebrated for his time in Italy with clubs like Juventus, Parma, and Udinese.
Barça Legends coach Albert Ferrer, who led his side to five consecutive victories last season, is expected to announce his squad soon as they look to continue their impressive form.
The Barça Legends project, launched in 2016, aims to reunite former club stars for international matches, promoting the club's global presence and values while bringing nostalgic football moments to fans around the world.
