WARNING ⚠️! ! Is Drinking Water After Eating Peanuts Safe? See What Experts Say That’s Worrisome
Oct 9, 2024
Peanuts are a popular winter snack in many parts of the world, especially in India, where roadside vendors selling roasted peanuts are a common sight. These crunchy nuts are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients, making them a healthy snacking option. However, there' s an old belief that drinking water immediately after eating peanuts is harmful. Is this just a myth, or is there truth to it?
The Science Behind It
While the advice to avoid drinking water after consuming peanuts may seem like traditional wisdom, it actually has some scientific backing. According to clinical nutritionist Shweta Mahadik from Fortis Hospital Kalyan, consuming water right after eating peanuts can lead to coughing and throat irritation. This happens because peanuts are oily, and drinking water can cause fat deposits to form in the food pipe, which may result in discomfort.
Peanuts are also considered a " warm" food, meaning they increase the body' s internal heat. Drinking water, which has a cooling effect, can disturb this temperature balance, potentially leading to colds or respiratory issues. This is similar to the discomfort people experience when drinking cold water after spending time in a hot environment.
