ACP Agordzo Opens Up on Ordeal with Ghana’s Justice System, Set to Release New Book
Oct 17, 2024
Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, has shed light on his experience with Ghana's justice system, recounting the challenges he faced after being falsely accused of plotting a coup. Speaking in an interview with Blakk Rasta on 3FM’s Urban Blend show on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, ACP Agordzo expressed how he endured unpleasant treatment but remained resolute in his innocence.
“It was the claim of the government that I was plotting a coup and I insisted on my innocence. They told their story at the time, and a court of competent jurisdiction acquitted and discharged me. Now is my time to tell my side of the story, which I have put in my upcoming book,” Agordzo stated. His new book, 'From Persecution to Freedom: Reflection of My Journey through the Justice System of Ghana', will be launched on October 30, 2024, at the Christ the King Auditorium in Accra.
Agordzo revealed that his decades-long experience in the Ghana Police Service, spanning tactical, operational, and administrative roles, compelled him to speak about the urgent need for the police force to become independent from government and political control. His outspoken stance, which was captured in a viral video of his presentation at the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), eventually led to his arrest.
