John Muhia Methu may not be a familiar name in Kenya’s political landscape, yet his story is both inspiring and unique.

Elected as the third Senator of Nyandarua, Methu was the youngest Senator elected in the recent General Election.
Despite not having influential relatives, he is carving his own path in the Senate and setting an example for young leaders.
Recently, Methu shared a glimpse into his personal life, introducing Kenyans to his beautiful wife and children.
At a public event, he introduced his wife and humorously recounted the challenges he faced in winning her heart.
“I’ve done many things in life, but convincing this woman, with her turban, to marry me while I don’t wear one, was no small task,” he joked. “Many Akorinos believe men who don’t wear the turban aren’t suitable husbands, so it was quite a challenge.”
Born in Laikipia County in 1991, Methu, now 33, faced challenges from a young age.
Two months after his birth, his parents separated, leading his mother to bring him to his grandmother in Heni, Nyandarua, where he grew up.
For years, he believed his grandmother was his mother and referred to his actual mother as “Auntie Njeri,” appreciating her visits and gifts.
Methu only met his biological father once during high school. His sister, who worked in Nyahururu, pointed him out in a crowd. They never had a chance to connect further, as his father passed away in 2011.
