An Equatorial Guinean court has ordered the remand of Baltasar Engonga, the former Director- General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, in prison. Engonga, who led the country' s primary anti- corruption body, was recently detained amid a high- profile scandal involving both alleged fraud and personal misconduct.
Reports indicate that Engonga is being held at Black Beach Prison in Malabo, known for its strict security and history of housing high- profile detainees. His detention follows revelations of extramarital relationships with multiple prominent individuals, including relatives of top government officials, adding to the severity of the allegations against him.

Engonga' s arrest occurred last week after authorities reportedly discovered evidence of his extramarital affairs. Among those implicated were the sister of Equatorial Guinea' s president and the wives of several influential figures in the country. These illicit relationships reportedly came to light when investigators conducting a fraud investigation at Engonga' s home uncovered a collection of CDs containing compromising videos.
The investigation, which began as a probe into financial misconduct, took a surprising turn when anti- corruption officials searched Engonga' s office and residence. During the search, officials reportedly found multiple videos revealing his intimate encounters with married women, many of whom were connected to high- ranking officials. The list of individuals allegedly involved included his brother' s wife, a cousin, the president' s sister, the Director- General of Police' s wife, and the spouses of more than 20 ministry officials.
