Today marks the fourth anniversary of the passing of former President Jerry John Rawlings, a transformative leader whose legacy remains deeply rooted in his dedication to the people of Ghana and the principles of justice and accountability.

In a statement from the Rawlings Foundation and the Rawlings family, the late president was celebrated as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a steadfast friend to millions across Ghana and beyond. Rawlings, affectionately known as " The People' s Man, " is remembered for his lifelong service and commitment to uplifting ordinary Ghanaians.

" Jerry John Rawlings remains The People' s Man: A leader who gave his life willingly in service to the ordinary people, " the statement read. " He dedicated his whole life to the ordinary people, " it added, underscoring his belief in leadership that prioritizes genuine service to citizens— a principle he championed for governments across Africa.

Rawlings' political journey began in 1979 during a period of significant socio- economic challenges. As a young Air Force pilot and leader of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), his decisive leadership and vision for justice inspired a movement for change. He went on to lead Ghana as Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) from 1981 to 1992, later serving as the first president of the Fourth Republic from 1992 to 2001, making him the nation' s longest- serving leader.
