We Want Bawumia– Mahama Booed by NPP Supporters During Ashanti Region Campaign Tour
Nov 12, 2024
Former President John Dramani Mahama encountered a charged reception during his recent campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, as supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) disrupted his address with chants favoring Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The incident, which occurred while Mahama addressed residents in the NPP stronghold, underscores the intensifying political competition as Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections. As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer attempted to present his vision for economic reform and infrastructure development, NPP supporters interrupted with pro- government slogans and repeated chants of " Bawumia. "
Maintaining his composure amid the disruption, Mahama called for calm among his supporters and emphasized the importance of democratic values. " Every Ghanaian has the right to voice their opinion, but let us also remember that we are here to discuss our vision for the future of Ghana, " he stated, addressing the gathering.
The former president' s campaign strategy in the Ashanti Region has centered on economic promises, including job creation, inflation reduction, and improved living standards. Mahama has leveraged his previous leadership experience, positioning himself as a seasoned leader capable of steering Ghana through its current challenges.
