Judging by the name of the game, it should come as no surprise that plenty of Dungeons and Dragons games take place deep underground. Although underground D&D locations are collectively referred to as dungeons, several different kinds of environments can play host to an underground adventure.
One of the most infamous and dangerous of these is the Underdark. This massive network of subterranean caves is home to a myriad of different monsters, making it a perfect stomping ground for brave — or foolish — D&D adventurers. Underdark monsters tend to be terrifying beings that rely on the cover of darkness to ambush unsuspecting adventure parties, even posing as the environment itself to get the edge. Other Underdark inhabitants are intelligent beings accustomed to life deep underground, and they will employ all kinds of vicious and tricky tactics to defend their suberranean lair.
