Scotland's 'best Christmas shop' is hidden gem in the heart of Edinburgh
Dec 11, 2024
A new list of the "best Christmas shops" in the UK has been published by The Times, and among the festive stores featured on the prestigious roundup is one hidden gem in Edinburgh.
An Edinburgh store has been named as Scotland's "best Christmas shop".
With December well underway, Scots up and down the country will be frantically trying to get their Christmas shopping done. Whether you are looking to pick up decorations for your tree or buy last-minute presents, online shopping cannot compare to the buzz of heading out in person.
Earlier this month, The Times published a list of "seven of the UK’s best Christmas shops". The only Scottish store to feature on the roundup is The Nutcracker Christmas Shop in Edinburgh.
The traditional festive gift store is located on the city's historic Royal Mile. It stocks a range of decorations, carved German figures, and nutcrackers.
The family-run business, which looks like a Santa's grotto from the outside, is open all throughout the year. However, it is in December that it truly comes alive.
Inside, you will find a wide variety of Christmas tree ornaments that can be personalised. The shop also sells 'box sets' that contain a number of different ornaments of a single theme, such as 'rustic farm' and 'pink sugarplum' sets.
The Times wrote: "With its Georgian buildings and crowning castle, Edinburgh is a worthy festive getaway all the way until early January, with the castle illuminated by a colourful large-scale projection show. The Scottish capital is also home to the original Nutcracker, a Christmas shop sourcing decorations from around the world, from tartan reindeer to glass angels."
