Nigerian Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage has spoken out about the persistent criticism she faces regarding her fashion choices, particularly as she grows older.

The 44- year- old singer and single mother shared her thoughts during a candid conversation on the Receipts podcast, where she addressed the double standards she experiences as a Nigerian celebrity.

Tiwa expressed frustration over the age- shaming she endures, pointing out the stark contrast between how women in her position are treated locally versus globally. She highlighted that while international stars like Beyoncé, who is also in her 40s, are celebrated for their confidence and beauty, she often becomes the target of negative comments for similar choices.

" They age- shame me every single day, " she revealed. " People say, ' A woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini? ' Well, I can because I have a body, " Tiwa declared unapologetically.

The singer further emphasized that women like Beyoncé receive praise for defying age stereotypes, particularly in America, where phrases like " black don' t crack" are used to celebrate women who maintain their youthful looks as they age. " Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis, but Americans don' t age- shame her. Instead, they celebrate her for looking good at her age, " she explained.
