Dec 18, 2024
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, born on March 24, 1944, comes from a distinguished Ghanaian family with a rich legacy in leadership and public service.
His early education began at Government Boys School in Adabraka and continued at Kinbu School. He later moved to England, where he attended Lancing College in Sussex for his O-Level and A-Level education. Akufo-Addo pursued higher education in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at New College, Oxford, before returning to Ghana. He then taught at Accra Academy and earned a degree in Economics from the University of Ghana in 1964.
Akufo-Addo’s political roots run deep, influenced by his prominent lineage. His father, Edward Akufo-Addo, served as Ghana's third Chief Justice and as a non-executive president from 1970 to 1972. On his maternal side, his grandfather, Nana Sir Ofori Atta, was the King of Akyem Abuakwa and a key figure in Ghana’s pre-independence history.
Nana Akufo-Addo has been married to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the daughter of Jacob Hackenburg Griffiths-Randolph, since the dissolution of his earlier marriages to Remi and Eleanor Nkansah-Dwamina. Their enduring marriage is noted for its warmth, and the couple privately renewed their vows in 2017. They are proud parents to four daughters: Gyankroma, Yeboakua, Edwina Nana Doukwa, and Adriana Dukua Akufo-Addo.
