I compared M&S Christmas crisps to bags at seven supermarkets and found a clear winner
Dec 21, 2024
I compared limited edition Pigs in Blankets flavour crisps from Sainsbury's, M&S, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Lidl and Tesco
Christmas crisps are big news in supermarket aisles this year. You can get crisps flavoured with turkey and stuffing, Brie and cranberry, pigs in blankets and even star and tree-shaped tortillas.
They tend to be in the 'Special' ranges, devoted to luxury foods and snacking. As festive treats go, they're not overly-expensive, priced between £1.15 and £1.75 for a sharing pack.
I bought pigs in blankets flavour crisps from Sainsbury's, M&S, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Lidl and Tesco to see how they compared. I'm not a huge fan of crisps myself so I enlisted my resident crisp-eating experts, the kids, to help and this is what we found.
Aldi Pigs in Blankets Hand-Cooked Crisps
These 'limited edition' crisps cost £1.15 for a 150g bag, which works out to 77p per 100g. Part of Aldi's Specially Selected range, these sausage and beechwood smoked bacon flavour crisps are made with British potatoes.
We found they weren't greasy at all but had a lovely smoky bacon flavour. You couldn't taste the sausage flavour quite so much but they were really tasty and moreish. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars.
Asda Pigs in Blankets Hand-Cooked Crisps
Part of Asda's Extra Special range, these crisps cost £1.35 for a 150g bag, which works out to 90p per 100g. The bag is covered in shiny stars. Made with British potatoes, they are described as having a 'rich and meaty flavour with a hint of smokiness'.
