8 Creative Wallpaper Trends That Will Transform Your Living Space
Jan 8, 2025
Wallpaper has always been leveraged as a way to instantly revive a space. Though it briefly fell out of favor following '60s and '70s—and was deemed a decorating faux-pas in the '90s and early aughts—wallpaper has since enjoyed a major revival as we embrace more texture, color, and personality in our homes.
"Whether in a powder room for a surprise pop of color and pattern, or wall-to-wall coverage to really make a statement, wallpaper is a way for a homeowner to add an extra layer of intentional love to their spaces," says David Quarles, principal interior designer at Studio 417. "If texture is needed in a space, grasscloth wallpaper is a great way to add a tactile experience to any room."
Today, people are using wallpaper in all kinds of creative ways—like placing it in unexpected places or reviving an old piece of furniture. Ahead, we chatted with designers about some of the more inventive wallpaper trends you can try in your own home.
Wallpapering Furniture
When updating an old piece of furniture, it's common to either sand and stain or give it a fresh coat of paint. Another option is to apply wallpaper to the entire piece or to a few specific areas for contrast.
"I've started to see friends use peel-and-stick wallpaper to transform their furniture," says Quarles. "Whether on the outside door panels of a media cabinet or the interior of a glassware case, adding peel-and-stick wallpaper to your furniture is a way to give it a beautiful new life.”
