At least 11 people have been reportedly killed in a gruesome attack on Amanaogu Autonomous Community, Ihitenansa, in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, Southeast Nigeria. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, January 8, around 8 p. m. , marks the latest tragedy in the region' s growing insecurity.

According to SaharaReporters, the unidentified assailants stormed the community, leaving a trail of bloodshed and despair. Unconfirmed reports suggest that between Sunday, January 5, and Wednesday, January 8, the area has witnessed widespread violence, with as many as 30 to 40 people feared dead in multiple attacks.

Eyewitness accounts and videos from the scene show the lifeless bodies of at least 11 victims, including women and children, sprawled in front of their homes. The brutal killings appear to have occurred in various locations, with some victims slain inside their residences and others at a local drinking joint.

One particularly harrowing video depicts a family of three— a father, mother, and their only child— slaughtered alongside their mother- in- law near their local business center. A voice in the footage recounts the horrifying moment when another family was pursued into their home by the attackers.

" This very family ran into their house, locked their door, and went upstairs. Yet, these assailants broke down their doors, went after them, and killed five people inside, " the voice narrated. " A mother, son, daughter, and two other family members were slaughtered in cold blood. This is pure evil. "
