Jan 20, 2025
In an exciting new chapter for his football career, former Ipswich Town and Celtic midfielder Kundai Benyu has made a move to Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants, CAPS United. This transition marks a fresh start for the 27-year-old midfielder as he looks to revive his professional journey after a year-long hiatus from competitive football in the UK.
Benyu, who landed in Zimbabwe on Saturday, was warmly welcomed by the club’s management, including head coach Lloyd Chitembwe and CAPS United legend Alois Bunjira. The midfielder wasted no time settling in as he inked a two-year deal with the club, which will see him stay with CAPS United until December 2026. His contract signifies a major step in his journey as he embarks on his first-ever stint with a Zimbabwean football team.
Benyu’s career trajectory has taken him from England to Scotland and beyond, showcasing his talent across different footballing cultures. After beginning his professional career at Ipswich Town, he moved to Celtic, a major football institution in Scotland, where he had the opportunity to sharpen his skills in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues. Along with his time in the UK, he also played for IBV in Iceland, broadening his international experience. Despite these notable experiences, Benyu’s last year saw him without a club, which has led him to look for new challenges and opportunities at CAPS United.
