Ghanaians Criticize Kumawood Actress Kala Kumasi for Publicly Seeking Funds for an iPhone 14
Feb 13, 2025
In a move that has sparked significant backlash, Kumawood actress Kala Kumasi is facing a wave of criticism from Ghanaians after she took to social media to request financial assistance for the purchase of an iPhone 14. The actress, known for her vibrant presence in the Ghanaian entertainment scene, shared her plea on TikTok, where she expressed her desire to replace her damaged phone with the latest model, which she referred to as her "dream device."
In her video, Kala disclosed that a local phone dealer had quoted her GH₵14,000 for the iPhone 14, a sum that she found herself unable to afford as she had only managed to save GH₵300. Her appeal for financial support from her followers and well-wishers has since been met with a torrent of criticism, as many Ghanaians feel her request is out of touch with the realities faced by ordinary citizens.
The timing of Kala's plea has raised eyebrows, especially given the economic challenges that many individuals in Ghana are currently facing. Critics have pointed out that rather than appealing to the general public, Kala should seek assistance from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the political party she has long supported. Her deep-rooted affiliation with the NDC has been well-documented; she actively campaigned for the party during the 2024 general elections, particularly in the Ashanti Region, which is known to be a stronghold for the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
