The term “workwear“ is broad. Depending on who you ask, it can be protective gear required by OSHA, what one wears for weekend chores and fun projects, or grease-stained coveralls that never leave the garage. Our favorite workwear jacket that leans more toward casual is Huckberry’s Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker.

We don’t advise counting on it to keep you safe from a chemical spill or give you high-vis on the side of the road, but that’s the appeal—it’s easy to wear and the perfect layer for medium-duty work like yard work and home improvement projects.

Though I haven’t put it through the rigors of a foreman nor have I needed to pair it with a hardhat to enter a job site, I’ve worn it through different seasons in different cities and it continues to impress for functionality and good looks. Huckberry’s Flint and Tinder Trucker employs a tried-and-true workwear material—waxed canvas. The fabric is exactly what it sounds like: cotton densely woven into canvas then coated in wax. Eighteenth-century mariners originated the idea for their ship sails, and the British military used the material for apparel during World War I.
