The best surge protectors in 2025, tested by experts
Mar 1, 2025
Surge protectors stand between you and an electrical disaster. Power surges are more common than you may realize and if you have sensitive electrical equipment, it’s important to make sure it stays protected. A surge protector can be versatile and help keep your electronics charged, like a power strip, but their primary function is to make sure that extra power can’t get through.
To test out these surge protectors, we picked six highly-rated surge protectors and tested them running a ton of devices all at once. These included a gaming PC, three monitors of varying sizes, a few lights, a docking station and a few other odds and ends. We tested each surge protector for at least one week (sometimes longer) to ensure the devices stayed on, and to get a sense as to how they worked on a day-to-day basis. Here’s what we found.
Best overall surge protector
This surge protector offers twelve outlets, plus two USB-A ports and one USB-C port for charging smaller devices. The USB ports utilize Anker's IQ charging technology as well.
Most versatile surge protector
The Tripp Lite 12-Outlet surge protector can protect your electronics plugged into its outlets, but it also adds a coaxial connection and RJ-45 network ports as well.
Best heavy duty surge protector
The Furman Power conditioner is a heavy-duty surge protector with eight outlets, a telephone jack and coaxial connectors built from solid steel and heavy gauge wiring.
