Nairobi - The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a tax waiver of KSh 140 billion in penalties, interest, and fines under the amnesty programme designed to ease the financial burden on taxpayers.
KRA stated that the amnesty programme, which began on December 27, 2024, has already benefited 1.9 million taxpayers and will continue until June 30, 2025.

Who benefits from KRA's amnesty programme?

Under the amnesty program, taxpayers who paid their principal tax due by December 31, 2023, automatically qualify for a waiver on penalties and interest, eliminating the need for a formal application.
However, those with outstanding tax liabilities up to this date must apply via the iTax system and submit a structured payment plan to clear their principal tax obligations by June 30, 2025.
KRA emphasised that tax debts incurred from January 1, 2024, onward are not eligible for amnesty, meaning all penalties, interest, and principal taxes for these periods remain payable.
The authority has collected KSh 4 billion in principal tax payments since relaunching the programme to enhance compliance.
"Since the re-launch of the Tax Amnesty program, KRA has successfully collected Kshs. 4 Billion in principal tax payments, demonstrating the program’s wide-reaching impact and the Authority’s commitment to supporting taxpayers in regularising their tax compliance," read the statement by KRA in part.
