No ‘Gay Jesus’ film: the Frankenstein hoax that keeps on giving
Mar 4, 2025
IN SHORT: A flurry of social media posts warn of a forthcoming film depicting Jesus and “his homosexual disciples” and call on Christians to boycott the movie. But this is a hoax, so well-worn that it has its own Wikipedia page. While the posts stitch together half-truths from pop culture, no evidence of such an upcoming film exists.
“The film ‘Corpus Christi’ by the satanic director named Jean Willys … is about to be released in theaters. This movie shows the LORD and his homosexual disciples,” begins a message doing the rounds on social media.
It has also been posted on religious groups and goes on to label the film a “disgusting travesty” and a “crime against our FAITH”.
The message was forwarded to us by a reader via our What’s Crap on WhatsApp voice note show. Some versions of the claim include a movie poster, and others a call to action, urging readers to forward the message and boycott the film. The social media posts claim the film has already been banned in parts of Europe.
